Finished! Sort of. At least the first page of my dummy book is. Dummy book – an extraordinarily apt thing to call this bunch of pages I’m supposed to put together. (That can’t be any kind of original observation.)
All that’s left to do is the editing. I laugh. I laugh in its face. Actually, editing’s my favorite part of the whole writing process.
The writing part’s good. I write long hand. I have to – not because of any superstition, but because I seem to need the rhythm I get when pen and mind are cooperating. I love that rhythm. I dislike description very much. What’s not to dislike about struggling over things I myself would probably skip if I was reading?
Editing, though, is a pleasure in every way. Which works out now that I have to do it.
